Religion: We learn the different parts of Mass. We recognize that the Mass begins when the assembly gathers to worship God. We identify the entrance rites of the Mass and practice participating in the Mass. We use pages 221-230 in our religion book.

Reading: The Book 2 / Unit 1 theme is " Look Around: there are surprises all around us." The reading for the week of Feb.8-12 is "The Best vacation Ever." Children read about Amanda's report on all of the exciting places she visited on her summer vacation. We use the pages 70-90 in our reading book.
Study Skills: Children learn how to use a map key and compass rose to identify states, cities and locations on a map. We learn to compare and contrast elements of a story.
Spelling Words for the Week of Feb.8-12 are: paw, caught, because, talk, straw, hawk, salt, lawn, taught, fault, guess, museum, practice, vacation, and wonder.
Math: We are learning to subtract two-digit numbers with and without regrouping. Practicing subtraction facts is an easy way to do subtraction problems. I encourage you to practice math. facts at home. We start our one minute math. timed tests this week.

Phonics: We learn to define a consonant digraph and read and write words with digraphs sh, th, wh, ck, kn, wr, and ch in context. We recognize and read these high frequency words: believe, two, your, once, bought, and new.
Social Studies: We are learning how the goods are produced and distributed to different places. We discuss four modes of transportation and complete a flowchart showing how goods move from factories to stores.

Science: We are on Unit B: Earth Science. In chapter 7 students learn that fossils provide evidence about the plants and animals that lived long ago. We describe how fossils are formed and the characteristics of different dinosaurs. We recognize that scientists such as paleontologists use technology in scientific research. We are using pages 201-211 in our science book.
